What it does
The Salary Calculator converts pay between hourly, daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly and yearly amounts. It can add overtime and take off an estimated tax and deduction rate, so you can compare a job offer, a contract rate or a pay rise on the same basis.
How to use it
- Enter the Pay and choose the period it is Per: hour, day, week, fortnight, month or year.
- Set Hours / week, Days / week and Paid weeks / year.
- Optionally add Overtime hours / week and the Overtime rate (1.5 for time and a half).
- Optionally enter Tax & deductions as a percentage to see take-home pay.
- The Pay by period table shows gross and take-home for every period; download it as CSV.
Example
25 an hour, 40 hours a week, 52 paid weeks:
| Period | Gross |
|---|---|
| Yearly | 52,000 |
| Monthly | 4,333.33 |
| Weekly | 1,000 |
| Daily | 200 |
Add 5 hours of overtime a week at 1.5× and the yearly gross rises to 61,750.
Good to know
- The tax figure is a flat percentage, not a real tax calculation. Income tax is usually banded, and social security, pensions and local taxes vary, so use your country's official calculator for the exact take-home figure.
- Contractors often have fewer paid weeks: set Paid weeks / year to around 46 to allow for holidays and gaps between contracts.
- To turn hours into a weekly total first, use the Timesheet Calculator.
FAQ
How do I convert a yearly salary to an hourly rate? Choose per year, enter the salary and your usual hours. 52,000 a year at 40 hours a week is 25 an hour.
Why is my monthly pay not four times my weekly pay? A year has 52 weeks but 12 months, so a month averages 4.33 weeks.
