What it does
The Diff Finder compares two versions of a text, code or JSON and shows exactly what was added, removed or changed. You can compare line by line, word by word or character by character, and view the result side by side or as a single unified list.
How to use it
- Paste the old version into Original and the new version into Changed (or click Load sample).
- Click Compare.
- Choose the detail: Lines, Words or Chars.
- Choose the view: Side by side or Unified.
- Use Swap to reverse the direction, or Edit to go back and change the texts.
Example
Original:
Delivery within 5 working days.
Payment due in 30 days.
Changed:
Delivery within 3 working days.
Payment due in 14 days.
Prices include VAT.
Word by word, the diff marks 5 → 3 and 30 → 14, and shows the last line as added.
Good to know
- Lines is best for code and configuration, Words for documents and contracts, Chars for IDs, keys and short strings.
- To compare JSON reliably, first format both sides with the same settings in the JSON Formatter, with Sort keys on, so only real differences show.
- For prose, the Text Diff Checker opens with word-level comparison already selected.
FAQ
Can it ignore whitespace changes? Formatting both texts the same way first gives the cleanest result.
Are my documents uploaded to compare them? No, the comparison runs in your browser.
