What it does
The Data Format Converter converts between JSON, YAML, XML, CSV and TOML in any direction. It is handy for moving settings between tools, turning an API response into a spreadsheet, or rewriting a config in the format another tool expects.
How to use it
- Choose the From and To formats. Swap direction flips them.
- Paste your data, open a file, or click Load sample.
- Choose the indent for the output.
- For CSV, Flatten nested turns nested objects into dotted column names such as
address.city, and turns them back into objects when reading CSV. - Copy or download the result.
Example
{ "app": { "name": "InTab", "debug": false }, "tags": ["dev", "tools"] }
As YAML:
app:
name: InTab
debug: false
tags:
- dev
- tools
As TOML:
tags = [ "dev", "tools" ]
[app]
name = "InTab"
debug = false
Good to know
- CSV is flat. Lists of objects convert well; deeply nested data becomes dotted columns or JSON inside a cell.
- TOML needs an object at the top level, not a list.
- XML attributes are shown with an
@_prefix and element text as#text, so attributes are not lost. - Numbers and
true/falseare detected when reading CSV and XML.
FAQ
Will comments survive? No. JSON has no comments, so they are dropped during conversion. To keep YAML comments while tidying a file, use the YAML Formatter.
Can I convert Excel files? Use the CSV ↔ Excel Converter to get CSV or JSON first.
