- Type the Value to encode.
- Adjust the bar size, height, colours and text under Style.
- Download PNG or SVG, or Print.
Which format do I need?
| Use | Format |
|---|---|
| Retail products (Europe and most of the world) | EAN-13 |
| Retail products (US and Canada) | UPC-A |
| Books | ISBN (printed as an EAN-13 Bookland barcode) |
| Shipping cartons | ITF-14 |
| SKUs, warehouse, shipping labels | Code 128 |
| ID badges, older industrial systems | Code 39 |
Example
For EAN-13, enter the 12 digits 590123412345. The check digit 7 is calculated and added, giving 5901234123457.
Good to know
- Real retail barcodes (EAN and UPC) must use numbers assigned to your company by GS1. A made-up number can clash with another product.
- Code 128 accepts letters, numbers and symbols, which makes it the best choice for internal codes.
- Print in black on white and leave a quiet margin on both sides, or scanners may fail.
FAQ
Do I need to buy barcodes? For selling in shops and on Amazon, yes: get your numbers from GS1. For internal stock, use any Code 128 value.
How do I make many barcodes at once? Use the Bulk Barcode Generator, or the Label Generator for printable labels.
